Our Juicing Machine Reviews: You’ll Wish You’d Started Juicing Sooner
Juicing can be a miracle worker if one chooses to do it on even a semi-regular basis. Many health issues can be addressed and either healed or greatly minimized. We don’t have health issues, but we love the way our hair, skin and eyes shine from regularly juicing, and the great digestion benefits. Many people also experience weight loss as well. Juicing can be absolutely rejuvenating for the body, mind and soul. In our humble opinion, juicing is the closest thing we have to a real fountain of eternal youth and health here on earth.
The benefits of having freshly juiced vegetables and fruits to drink are well documented, and we’ll soon be offering a lot more information about juicing here. But what a lot of people may not know is why it’s very important to choose the right juicing machine when you’ve made a decision to add juicing to your health routine.
Four Types of Juicing Machines
There are four basic types of juicers. In order of general effectiveness (least effective to most effective) on greens, they are as follows:
1. Centrifugal (aka spinning blade) juicing machines
Cost range – $50 -$300. Centrifugal juicing machines have a spinning basket with a sharp disc that shreds the fruits and vegetables, propelling the juice through a fine strainer using centrifugal force.
These juicers are cost-friendly, but most produce juice at higher speeds, which exposes the juice to more heat. Therefore the juice oxidizes, losing flavor and nutrients, and cannot be stored for more than 24 hours.
The pulp ejected is wet, and centrifugal juicers don’t fare so well with greens. They’re also limited in that they won’t work with wheatgrass, sprouts, or nuts, and they don’t hav e the food-processing capabilities that the masticating juicers have.
However, juicing is typically the least effort with these machines because they have wider feeder tubes, which means less cutting and slicing for you They also tend to make juicing a faster experience because of their higher speeds.
Centrifugal juicing machines typically have a vertical footprint.
Who Should Buy a Centrifugal Juicing Machine?
These juicing machines can be a good choice for juicing rookies because they are inexpensive, easy to use and the whole juicing process goes down faster.

2. Single-gear masticating juicing machines
Cost range – $200-$400. These juicing machines are also known as slow juicers, cold press, or single auger. They have one gear (also called an auger) that crushes and “chews” the plant fibers in order to literally break up the plant cells. This process retains more of all the good stuff that you are juicing for: antioxidants, enzymes, fiber, and nutrients.
Masticating juicers can extract more juice than a centrifugal machine, and therefore they are more desirable for serious juicers than the less expensive centrifugal juicers. Masticating juicers operate at slower speeds (RPMs) than centrifugal juicers, resulting in less foam and heat, which means more nutrition in your glass.
They excel at juicing wheatgrass and greens, but they can also juice most fruits and vegetables including cranberries and nuts.
Pulp is not quite as dry as that you will extract from a double-gear machine, and a little more will show up in your juice
One other excellent feature of masticating juicers is that they typically come with other food-processing abilities, and can produce foods like nut butters, nut milks, baby food, and some can even make pasta!
Single-gear masticating juice extractors can come in a vertical or horizontal footprint.
Who should buy a single-gear masticating juicing machine?
Single-gear masticating juicing machines are a great choice for more serious or experienced juicers who don’t mind investing more time into prep and cleanup, and who don’t mind paying a little bit more money for a better product.

3. Double-gear triturating juicing machines
Cost range: $300 – $1,000. The double-gear (auger) triturating juicers are the most expensive juicing machines for the home; only commercial hydraulic presses are more expensive. But they are also the most efficient, extracting higher yields of juice and resulting in even less oxidation and foam than the single-gear masticating juicers. This means that you get the most nutritious value for your produce, and you can also refrigerate your juice for up to 3 days.
This is because the double-gear machines work at even slower speeds to extract about 15% more juice out of the same amount of produce and even drier pulp. And they can extract as much wheatgrass juice as the machines specifically designed for wheatgrass juicing.
These juice extractors press the food between two interlocking roller gears. The high pressure compression of the twin gears breaks open tough cell walls and releases more enzymes, vitamins and trace minerals.
Double-gear triturating juicing machines require some strength to operate and have more parts to clean than the other types of juicers. They can also be more complex to assemble after cleaning.
Double-gear triturating juicing machines typically have a horizontal footprint.
Who should buy a double-gear triturating juicing machine?
These juicers are for the seriously dedicated enthusiast who will pay for the best quality and who will make good use of the machine by drinking large quantities of juice.
4. Hydraulic press juicing machines
Cost range: $1,000 – $2,500. These are commercial machines with solid industry-level components. Hydraulic press juicers will yield the most juice and give you the dryest pulp.
Hydraulic press juicers utilize a two-step process for extracting juice. The first step is cutting, shredding and grinding the produce, and the second step involves exerting extreme pressure to actually extract the juice.
This type of juicer is able to maintain more of the natural vitamins, minerals and enzymes in the produce than the other types of juicers. So what you get is super nutritious juice with a velvety texture and more flavor. In addition, a hydraulic press juicer will do much better with softer fruits than the other types of juicing machines.
The two-step process is more tedious and time-consuming, and these machines are much more trouble to clean.
Hydraulic juicing machines can have a horizontal or vertical footprint, but either way, they will take up more space than the other juicers. Bottom line: They’re huge.
Who should buy a hydraulic press juicing machine?
Hydraulic press juicing machines are for true zealots with a large budget and a lot of space and time, or for those who would use them for commercial ventures.
